Featured speakers include longtime activist Grace Lee Boggs, MONTHLY REVIEW editor John Bellamy Foster, author and media activist Robert W. McChesney, prominent lawyer and author Michael E. Tigar, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and political economist Fred Magdoff. The acclaimed genderbending singer and songwriter Toshi Reagon will also perform.

Since 1949, MONTHLY REVIEW has published economic, political, and social theory, and current events aimed at a readership that includes scholars, activists, and workers, young and old. Articles from the magazine are widely reproduced in journals and websites around the world. Foreign language editions are published in Spanish, Greek, Korean, Turkish, and Bengali.

MONTHLY REVIEW’s distinctive contributions to the world of ideas have advanced an analysis that, in Noam Chomsky’s words, “explains the real nature of the economy, and provides a steady hand to guide understanding of the disastrous crises into which the United States and global economies are falling today, and the ways in which the world might escape.” Environmental degradation, imperialism and the continuing and deepening economic inequality between rich and poor nations, and between the rich and poor everywhere, are given sustained, serious attention by its editors.

The continued importance of its publications was demonstrated again this past spring when Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez presented Barack Obama a copy of the MONTHLY REVIEW PRESS classic, Open Veins of Latin America, by Eduardo Galeano.
