  5. Invitation: Social Movement round table
    February 3, 2015

    Dear Scott Kurashige,
My name is Juan Leal and I am a PhD. student in the Romance Languages Department at the University of Michigan. I met you in 2014, when I and some friends visited Grace Lee Boggs in Detroit, with the aim to introduce Ruben Ortiz (an activist from Argentina) to her. I write you on behalf of the Fraker Graduate Student Conference organizing committee.
For our yearly conference, we invite national and international scholars to give a public keynote lecture and to meet informally with graduate students during a workshop. This year as part of the celebration of the 20th version of the Fraker conference, What do Social Movements Do? we are also organizing a round table with representatives from different social movements in U.S. (www.20thfrakerconference.com)
Having known the work of the Grace Lee Boggs Center and its long standing activism in Detroit, we believe your contribution will be remarkably pertinent for the theme of our round table. We would love to invite you to take part of this round table, which will take place in Ann Arbor, Mi, in March 12, from 6.00 till 9.00 pm. The round table aims to reunite US activists in order to discuss current social and political demands; specially, police state’s repression and racism. Likewise, the round table will be an important occasion to connect academics and activists who are involved in similar struggles throughout the country.
On behalf of the organizing committee, we would appreciate very much your participation in the event. I could provide you with further details about this, as well as I will answer you any question that you could have.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
    All the best
    Juan Leal
Fraker Graduate Student Conference organizing committee.
