People's Forum - August 17th

Written with Alice Jennings

Every Detroiter should attend the People's Forum on August 17 at the Samaritan Center, 5555 Connor, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Come with your children, your family , your neighbors, your fellow workers, the members of your congregation.

This Peoples Forum has been organized by a wide diversity of Detroiters of all ethnic groups and walks of life,, including ministers, auto workers, community organizers , school board members, who have been meeting weekly since March to compile the information and create the tools to empower Detroiters to end the Emergency Management dictatorship that Governor Snyder and the Republican State Legislature have imposed on our city.

At this forum you will find out what you do not get from the media. You will learn about the lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the EM, about how to preserve the pensions of city workers, about how to keep Belle Isle as the Peoples Park .

We will discuss Alternatives to the EM; about how Detroit can avoid bankruptcy by demanding the millions in revenue savings owed us by the state; about how we can challenge the president and politicians to come to our assistance; what assistance we can ask for and expect from President Obama, Senator Levin, Congressman Conyers; what actions we can organize to make sure we are not left to suffer at the cruel, corporate hands of a Kevyn Orr and Governor Snyder.

Together we will discover how all of us, from children to elders, can get involved in creating a Detroit that is based on the needs and the power of the people rather than on the needs and the power of the banks and big corporations.

NOBODY CAN SAVE US BUT US!!!

If we do not organize ourselves to resist what the Emergency Manager is doing, we will be living in a city without a water and lighting department, without the Belle Isle that has been ours for as long as we can remember.

There is something that every one of us can do, not only children and youth but elders and middle-agers are elders.

There are alternatives to bankruptcy that WE, THE PEOPLE CAN AND MUST CREATE TOGETHER AT THE PEOPLE FORUM, SATURDAY, AUGUST 17 AT THE SAMARITAN CENTER ON CONNER.

COME LEARN WHAT YOU/WE CAN DO WITH OUR FAMILIES, OUR NEIGHBORS, OUR FELLOW WORKERS AND CHURCH MEMBERS!!!!!
